How to estimate measurement uncertainty when quantifying pesticides
نویسنده
چکیده
Within the particular context of food safety, the concentrations of pesticides that have been detected should absolutely be lower than the authorized maximum concentration level (MRL). In that respect, the availability of complete data is of the utmost importance for deciding whether a product is or is not compliant with the regulations in force. However, these concentrations only get their full meaning when they are considered in conjunction with their measurement uncertainty. As a matter of fact, that uncertainty reflects, with a certain confidence level, the spread of values that may reasonably be allocated to a measurement [1]. Several methods may be taken into consideration for estimating the measurement uncertainty related to a pesticide concentration, provided they are compliant when the GUM (guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement [2]) and the ISO 17025 standard [3].

Proposing a Robust Model of Interval Data Envelopment Analysis to Performance Measurement under Double Uncertainty Situations
It is very necessary to consider the uncertainty in the data and how to deal with it when performance measurement using data envelopment analysis. Because a little deviation in the data can lead to a significant change in the performance results. However, in the real world and in many cases, the data is uncertain. Interval data envelopment analysis is one of the most widely used approaches to d...
متن کاملQuantifying Uncertainty in Forest Nutrient Budgets
Nutrient budgets for forested ecosystems have rarely included error analysis, in spite of the importance of uncertainty to interpretation and extrapolation of the results. Uncertainty derives from natural spatial and temporal variation and also from knowledge uncertainty in measurement and models. For example, when estimating forest biomass, researchers commonly report sampling uncertainty but ...
متن کاملSources of uncertainty in pesticide fate modelling.
There is worldwide interest in the application of probabilistic approaches to pesticide fate models to account for uncertainty in exposure assessments. The first steps in conducting a probabilistic analysis of any system are: (i) to identify where the uncertainties come from; and (ii) to pinpoint those uncertainties that are likely to affect most of the predictions made. This article aims at ad...
متن کاملNovel and Established Concepts for Considering Correlation in Uncertainty Evaluation
− Modern uncertainty evaluation is based on both the knowledge about the measuring process and the input quantities contributing to the measurement result [12]. Very often, two or more of the input quantities are not independent from each other. The combined uncertainty can be enhanced or decreased by such correlation. In everyday practice, however, correlation is often ignored since the releva...
متن کاملEstimating and quantifying uncertainties on level sets using the Vorob'ev expectation and deviation with Gaussian process models
Several methods based on Kriging have been recently proposed for calculating a probability of failure involving costly-to-evaluate functions. A closely related problem is to estimate the set of inputs leading to a response exceeding a given threshold. Now, estimating such level set – and not solely its volume – and quantifying uncertainties on it are not straightforward. Here we use notions fro...
